Key hiring trends among Canada’s leading blue-chip companies and Small-Medium Sized Enterprises.
Released: February 2008
Building on a strong hiring trend that began over three years ago, Sapphire Canada recorded the strongest year on record in its 26-year history. Sapphire Canada’s IT Staffing demand reached a new record in 2007, with nearly 16,000 requirements coming in across the country. This represents an 18% increase over 2006’s record breaking volume of demand.
The strong year over year growth in demand was largely driven by increases in the volume of permanent requirements, up 21% over the last year. Growth in overall demand was seen across the country, with double digit growth in 8 of 11 regional markets.
While many media outlets have reported on a dampening of the economy, employers from coast to coast feel comfortable bringing on full time resources in record numbers. Growth in permanent hires generally reflects a high level of confidence in the economy.
